Re-opening the Critical Period for recovery after Stroke
Thank you for your interest. This study is now closed.
This does not mean you missed out on therapy as this was a research study, not treatment.

Other stroke research and treatment at UCL is ongoing:
-
The aphasia clinic offers intensive speech and language therapy.
-
The PLORAS research study is a large clinical research trial about speech and language difficulties after stroke.
-
The Upper limb clinic offers intensive movement therapy for the arm and hand.
-
Other stroke research is listed on the UCL website.

We hope this information is useful.
Thank you for your interest in scientific research.

The ReCAPS study (now closed)
ReCAPS was a research study at UCL that explored how brain activity changes after someone has had a stroke that has affected their upper limb.
We also wanted to know whether non-invasive brain stimulation could be used to support brain activity after a stroke.

We found that brain stimulation did not have a clear impact on brain activity.

Brain stimulation is a promising technique for the future, but it needs more development.
The best known therapy for stroke remains repetitive training. For example language practice or physio as often as possible.

Eve's video about non-invasive brain stimulation can be found here
