Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS)

What does it do?

tDCS uses low levels of current to alter the "excitability", or responsiveness of neurons in the brain.

What does it feel like?

2 small electrodes are placed on the head and current flows between them.

People typically report feeling a tingling or itching sensation underneath the electrodes while stimulation is running.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

What does it do?

TMS sends single pulses of magnetic energy to a specific area of the brain. This causes a small muscle twitch in the hand.

What does it feel like?

When a pulse is applied, people feel a small tap on the head and a muscle twitch in the hand being stimulated.

Individual's may also feel incidental muscle twitches in the face or jaw.
